Being a campus with a global vision, STIE Perbanas Surabaya never stops to make it happen in a variety of interesting activities. In addition to institutional events, all local campus students who are members of the English Club Student Activity Unit (UKM) were also present to invite millennials to care about current issues in their environment.

This was manifested in the Perbanas Amazing Newbie Debate Competition (PANDCO) 2020. Lasting for two days, to be precise, Friday-Saturday 21-22 February 2020, this competition was attended by high school / vocational / MA level students in East Java. Located in the Auditorium Hall A Campus 1 STIE Perbanas Surabaya, as many as 21 teams competed to win.

The Chief Executive, Dona Ambarsari, explained that the PANDCO event is always held annually by UKM English Club STIE Perbanas Surabaya. The goal is to attract newbie debaters who are dominated by the millennial generation. In addition, these students are also invited to play an active role in maintaining environmental stability, such as social, economic, political, security, and others. Even during the competition, they argued in English.

"This means that millennials are aware of the environmental problems around them. They can be more open minded and think critically about developing issues. So, they don't just get carried away by certain currents," said Dona during the event.

Dona explained that the debate competition system refers to the Asian Parliamentary so that each team has 3 members. They competed to enter a number of rounds, namely the top 16, the top 8, the big 4 and the final round. "The first is the Preelimenary Round, the octo final round, the quarter final round, the semi-finals and the final round to determine the winner. There is also the Best Speaker category," he added.

It is known that a number of schools have come from various regions, including: Kediri, Blitar, Mojokerto, Bojonegoro, Surabaya, and others.

After following a series of rounds after rounds, finally the winners were determined who won the PANDCO 2020 Competition. First place was won by SMK Negeri 1 Kediri with the team name Serangan Fajar. Then, 2nd winner was awarded to SMA Negeri 15 Surabaya, 3rd place was won by SMK Negeri 6 Surabaya, and 4th place was won by SMA Negeri 1 Sooko Mojokerto. Finally, the title of Best Speaker was assigned to Lamtiar N.S.M. Nababan from SMA Negeri 2 Surabaya. (hms)
