Talkshow Needs Rupiah Redenomination
Bank Indonesia's plan to redenominate or simplify currency by eliminating a few digits but not changing the exchange rate of the currency came back. Meanwhile, Bank Indonesia has also confirmed that it will encourage the government to submit the rupiah redenomination bill to the DPR in the 2017 National Legislation Program (Prolegnas) proposal.
In order to equip students with knowledge about redenomination, STIE Perbanas Surabaya held a talk show with the theme "Need Rupiah in Redenomination" in collaboration with Sindo Radio. On Thursday 22 June 2017, at Room A 302 Campus 2, this activity was attended by 50 students starting at 11.00 - 12.00 WIB.
Meanwhile, Wina Alifah, who guided the Sindo Radio Talkshow, gave questions to the speakers regarding redenomination. "What is it, Ma'am, actually a redenomination if it's been around 2-3 years that it has become familiar to our ears, yes, but many don't understand it," he asked.
According to Dian Oktarina, S.E. M.M, Redenomination is related to the simplification of the rupiah currency. So this redenomination is expected to increase the value of the rupiah currency and strengthen the perception of the rupiah in international eyes. Meanwhile, in terms of benefits, Muji Armadani said that omitting the 3 digit rupiah figures would be simpler or easier to read, it could increase economic credibility and reduce inflation.
Student participant of the talkshow, uci revealed that the talk show discussing the theme of needing rupiah in redenomination is very interesting because lately the national media has touched on issues related to redenomination. "I attended this event to get deeper knowledge and knowledge about the history of redenomination of countries that have implemented redenomination and the impact that occurred after the redenomination was implemented," concluded Uci.
