Saturday, December 17, 2016, the Student Activity Unit (UKM English Club held an Internal Debate Competition 2016 which was attended by STIE Perbanas Surabaya students. With the theme "Re-Strengthen The Quality of Socialization" this time the competition discussed hot topics that were developing when As many as 24 teams of students from various departments and generations, they competed with the British Parlimentary debate system.

Chairman of STIE Perbanas Surabaya, Dr. Lutfi, SE., M.Fin. also supports the theme raised in this competition. "Direct socialization among people has recently decreased along with the development of technology, such as social media and gadgets. Finally, this condition limits communication between the community so that there needs to be awareness from the youths to want to socialize in a positive way, "he said.

Meanwhile, the essence of this competition is to introduce debate to STIE Perbanas Surabaya students about debate and provide a forum for them to think critically in arguing and "solution-oriented". The Chief Executive of the 2016 Internal Debate Competition, Faizatul Widad, said that all participants had shown their enthusiasm in participating in this debate competition. "This situation was felt starting from the participants attending the Technical Meeting and their willingness to practice before the competition," he explained.

Towards the final round, participants who qualify must compete in two rounds, namely the preliminary round and the semi-final. As a result, 4 selected teams advanced to the final round and debated the topic of the "TH legalize prostitution" motion. Based on the judges' assessment, the 1st place went to Ogie Tamara Kusuma and Noveriana; 2nd place won by Reza Respati Fardiansyah and Bayu Harsyaf; and 3rd place won by Ponta Dewa and Dini Kusuma Dewi. In addition, Fitriyah Nawawi has received an award as "The Best Speaker" in the Internal Debate competition.

English Club Manager, Yoga Trio hopes that this work program can be more advanced and attract more participants in the future so that we can find out the potential of STIE Perbanas Surabaya students in the world of debate and increase their interest in voicing opinions. (Iffah / Eko)
