A faculty team from Universitas Hayam Wuruk Perbanas is providing Smart Business Community assistance to household industry entrepreneurs. Located in Bluru Kidul Village, Sidoarjo Regency, more than 1,000 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are members of the Bluru Bangkit Sidoarjo (BBS) Community. Specifically, there are 210 MSMEs in the crafts sector, 146 in food and beverage, and approximately 648 members engaged in buying and selling activities.
According to Dr. Nurul Hasanah Uswati Dewi, S.E., M.Si., a faculty member at UHW Perbanas, the local entrepreneurs possess significant economic potential. However, she noted that they continue to face limitations in terms of technology, marketing, and digital business management.
“The membership records of the BBS community are still managed manually. Information dissemination is limited to a WhatsApp group. We aim to address these issues through a mentoring program based on the Smart Business Community approach,” explained Dr. Nurul during an interview on Tuesday (22/7).
She further elaborated that the Smart Business model implemented by her team begins with training and mentoring in standardizing production processes, aiming to enhance product quality and efficiency based on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). In terms of digitalization, the team developed a web-based application named FinTrack, designed to support MSMEs in digital financial recording and basic financial report preparation.
“In the area of digital marketing, we assist MSMEs by creating active business accounts on social media and e-commerce platforms to facilitate online transactions. Additionally, we provide guidance in branding and packaging design to enhance the visual appeal and identity of MSME products in Bluru Kidul,” she added.
This series of training and mentoring activities by UHW Perbanas faculty members is supported by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) through the Community Partnership Empowerment Program. The implementing team includes Dr. Nurul Hasanah Uswati Dewi, S.E., M.Si., CTA. (Chair), Deny Hermansyah, S.Kom., M.Kom. (Member), and Reza Tianto, S.Si., M.MT. (Member).
Training participant Riska Ifa Annisa shared that the sessions were highly informative and beneficial, especially since many members of the community had limited exposure to digital skills.
“This training has made it easier for the management team to filter, organize, and update data. It is extremely helpful in managing our member database,” said Riska, who serves in the digital marketing division of the BBS Community.
A representative from the Karagekuy MSME also expressed hope that the application could continue to be utilized and developed according to evolving needs, including ongoing mentorship and guidance.
“There are many new concepts that need to be understood, especially since the members come from multiple generations and not all are digitally literate. Therefore, continued guidance is essential until they become independent and proficient,” they concluded. (eko/pr)
