On Tuesday, July 23, 2024, the Faculty of Economics and Business at Hayam Wuruk Perbanas University Surabaya held a training event for Guidance and Counseling (BK) Teachers from various high schools / vocational schools in Surabaya and Sidoarjo which was attended by 19 Smu / SMK teachers as a form of commitment to support the development of professionalism of educators. The theme of the training this time was “Training on Recognizing Learning Styles, Talents, and Interests of Students”. Through this event, they strive to increase the knowledge of counseling teachers in supporting the advancement of education in the Surabaya and Sidoarjo areas because counseling teachers have a crucial role in helping students face various challenges in academic, social, and personal aspects. By understanding students' learning styles, BK teachers can tailor more effective learning and guidance approaches, thus promoting better academic achievement and holistic personal development.

The training was presented by Dr. Laila Saleh Marta, S.Psi, M.MT, who is an expert in the field of Psychology, providing in-depth insights into techniques for identifying students' learning styles, recognizing their talents, and developing their interests. With her strong background in psychology and education, she brought valuable practical experience to the participants. The purpose of this workshop is to improve the understanding and skills of counseling teachers in identifying and developing students' potential in terms of their learning styles, talents, and interests.

In his remarks, the Rector of Hayam Wuruk Perbanas University, Dr. Yudi Sutarso, S.E., M.Si. hoped that “this training will not only improve the quality of guidance and counseling services in schools, but also to help BK teachers in directing their students to find their best potential. Thus, the BK Teachers can be an important catalyst in creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students”.

The training participants were very enthusiastic and committed to deepening their knowledge. They actively participated in discussion sessions and workshops designed to put into practice the new methods learned from the resource persons. Discussions between participants also allowed for an exchange of experiences and ideas about the challenges they face in their daily lives. One of the participants stated that “This training is very helpful for us as SMA / SMK counseling teachers in directing our students, some of the material we already understand but there is new material that is certainly useful to broaden our horizons in the future”.

This training event is one of the many initiatives undertaken by the Faculty of Economics and Business at Hayam Wuruk Perbanas University to continue supporting the development of education in Indonesia. With the spirit of collaboration and continuous learning, they hope to make a significant positive impact on the world of education in the future. As such, this training is not just an event, but also a manifestation of a deep commitment to improving the standard of education and the quality of life of society through enhancing the capacity of our educators.
