Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) engaged in food and beverages need to be halal certified. In accordance with the order of Law (UU) Number 33 of 2014 Article 4 states that every product entering, circulating and trading in Indonesia must be halal certified. In fact, the Halal Product Guarantee Agency (BPJPH) of the Ministry of Religion is also aggressively socializing halal certified obligations for products that enter, circulate and are traded in the territory of Indonesia, planned to take effect from 17 October 2024.

Welcoming this policy, the Hayam Wuruk Perbanas University Lecturer Team moved quickly to provide halal certification assistance for MSME products. One of the Surabaya City MSMEs that was guided and assisted was the DessertandChill MSME located at Semolowaru Elok I/7 Sukolilo Surabaya District.

UHW Perbanas Community Service Team Coordinator, Dr. Supriyati, S.E., Ak., M.Si., said that halal certification assistance for MSMEs was indeed a program realized from grant activities from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology. Last October, Hayam Wuruk Perbanas University was trusted to run the Partnership-Based Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Development Program Grant in 2023.
