Innovation 2023 = UHW Perbanas Informatics Students Create Smart Trash Bins
Students from Universitas Hayam Wuruk Perbanas are actively involved in raising awareness among the public to dispose of their trash properly. They have achieved this through the creation of a product called the Smart Trash Bin (TESSA). Developed by Mochammad Vaif Dwi Alifkhan and Vanessa Meilisa Lantang, TESSA is equipped with Arduino technology that automatically opens the bin lid when approached and emits a sound.
"This innovation is unique because it utilizes sensors. So, when there is an object or anything in front of TESSA, the lid opens and closes automatically. This technology is beneficial for people who feel uncomfortable touching the trash bin lid," explained Vaif on Tuesday, January 31st.
To attract attention, the smart trash bin created by the UHW Perbanas Informatics students also emits sounds that can be customized according to the user's preference. "Our trash bin produces a 'Welcome' sound when an object is nearby and closes with a 'Thank you, have a nice day' message," Vanessa added.
Vanessa further explained that their trash bin is equipped with an LCD indicator to show the percentage of trash inside. "With the installed LCD, we can see the percentage of trash inside. The percentage increases as the amount of trash accumulates, ranging from 25% to 100%, indicating when it's time to empty the bin," Vanessa elaborated.
In its initial stage, their innovation is designed for a 5-liter trash bin powered by a power bank. "In the future, we plan to improve it by increasing the capacity to accommodate more trash. We also aim to utilize solar panels to power it with solar energy," Vanessa expressed her hopes for the future development of their project.
