This month of Ramadan feels different from the previous month of Ramadan, because Muslims around the world, including Indonesia, have to fast in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. Many activities in the month of Ramadan must be adjusted according to circumstances. Worship which is usually performed in a mosque, for example tarawih prayer, tadarus al-quran must be done at home.

This was implemented in order to reduce the spread of the covid-19 virus. Not only these activities, the tradition of sharing takjil before breaking the fast feels lonely, even though these activities are characteristic of the month of Ramadan. Then how do Muslims share with other underprivileged people other than takjil before breaking the fast?

Lecturer with the Bachelor of Sharia Economics at STIE Perbanas Surabaya, Dra. Ec. Sri Lestari Kurniawati, M.S., stated that we need to know that the month of Ramadan is a month of sharing, a month of generosity. As explained in Surah Al-Baqaroh (2): 254, "O you who believe, spend (in the way of Allah) a portion of the sustenance that We have given you before the day comes on that day there is no buying and selling anymore and there is no more shafa'at. "

According to him, as we know that zakat is part of the pillars of Islam, for those who have met the requirements, it is obligatory to pay zakat, especially zakat fitrah. Zakat fitrah will indeed be given at the end of Ramadan with the aim that Muslims who are included in vulnerable groups, such as the needy, the poor, and the poor. They are expected to participate in celebrating Eid.

Sri Lestari said, the Covid-19 pandemic is not a barrier to paying zakat. In fact, it is at times like this that the collection of zakat should be increased even more. According to him, this effort is intended so that zakat can be immediately distributed to mustahik (people who are entitled to receive zakat, -red) more quickly. "So it is expected to be paid immediately with the aim of being able to immediately help people in need," he advised.
