Perbanas Students Win a record 850 Short Movie Value for Soft Skills & Environmental Awareness
STIE Perbanas Surabaya students always make innovations and take the initiative to be aware of the environment. Even this innovation is manifested in the form of works of high quality and value. The 2018 batch of students who joined the 2019 Super Softskills Mentoring (SSM) activity, this time made a different product than usual. At first they always used used goods. Now, students use information technology and social media YouTube to campaign for environmental love through short films.
Exactly Saturday, July 20, 2019, as many as 850 students divided into 47 mentee groups (pronounced menti, the name for mentoring participants) presented various short movie titles. As made by Rio Athalah Rafif from mentor (group) 38. Rio said the film he made tells of an active smoker who is confused about quitting his smoking habit. The film, which is entitled Dilemma, finally won first place for the best Short Movie this year.
The Chief Executive, Nurcholis Setiawan, S.Psi., M. Psi., Said that Super Softskills Mentoring (SSM) is an annual routine activity for the newest batch of students. The SSM program lasts almost 6 months. And, mentors provide mentorship to mentees for up to 14 meetings. That is, this non-academic learning can be categorized for one semester like lectures. However, they are more trained and their soft skills are explored so that later each student's talents can be developed.
In connection with the Short Movie Record, students were directly involved in the making process. Starting from ideas, scripts, themes, the taking process, to editing. The films made also emphasize the concept of environmental awareness and the values of soft skills. In fact, each mentee contributes directly in the community to educate residents in saving the environment and character education for soft skills. The points of assessment include: Style and Organization, Creativity, Soft skills, and Quality.
"Their short films have been mass-published since July 7, 2019, yesterday, on the YouTube accounts of each mentee. Hopefully, after being shared, netizens and the general public can move to save the environment en masse through digital media," he hoped.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of STIE Perbanas Surabaya, Dr. Yudi Sutarso, S.E., M.Sc., highly appreciates the creativity and innovation of his students. The making of this short movie also attracted his attention because students are now very aware of the use of information technology. It should be noted, the Super Softskills Mentoring program has been around since 2008, when he was in the student affairs sector. "The goal is to develop student skills," said Yudi.
We will continue to develop the program, student innovation and creativity so that they can adapt according to the times. Given that nowadays everything has become a film and people are less interested in writing or pictures. "People watch videos every day with their cellphones. If we give it less interesting writing. But if the film, which is in line with today's life, it will be appropriate, "he explained.
Finally, the environmental innovation of STIE Perbanas students received appreciation from The La Tofi School of CSR. They are entitled to win an award from the Indonesian Green Initiative Record Museum (MURIHINDO) for their initiative to make a short film together with the environmental theme. "In my opinion, this film is a new history in Indonesia. That is the awareness of higher education managers, making movies as media influencing the public, "said Latofi. (hms)
