A team of lecturers from Universitas Hayam Wuruk (UHW) Perbanas is once again inspiring residents of Surabaya to venture into entrepreneurship. This time, they collaborated with the Fish Pond Community and Gunung Anyar Emas PKK (Family Welfare Movement) as partners to promote micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). According to the Surabaya City Government, the number of MSMEs is projected to increase by approximately 30% in 2024 compared to the previous year, a positive trend that boosts community income.
Dr. Supriyati, S.E., M.Si., CTA., the Head of the UHW Perbanas Faculty Community Service Team, stated that her team is directly engaging with community groups to provide business mentorship. They offer training to members of the Fish Pond Community and Gunung Anyar Emas PKK on product diversification using fish-based ingredients, as well as motivation to pursue entrepreneurship.
“We provided them with entrepreneurship training and shared success stories from established MSMEs. Additionally, we conducted hands-on sessions for creating fish-based products that are easy to implement,” Supriyati explained when interviewed on Friday (October 25).
Furthermore, the training and product-making sessions featured successful MSMEs previously mentored by UHW Perbanas. One such group, the Elok Mekarsari Farmers' Group of Surabaya, demonstrated how to make shredded catfish and fish-based spring rolls, while Tata Surabaya MSME showcased a method for making patin (catfish) nuggets.
“Our efforts aim to increase the entrepreneurial interest among Surabaya residents, so the Fish Pond Community and Gunung Anyar Emas PKK can independently produce and sell fish-based products, ultimately supporting local economic growth,” added the UHW Perbanas Vice Rector for Resources.
The community service initiative is supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology through a 2024 grant program. The UHW Perbanas faculty members involved include Dr. Supriyati, S.E., M.Si., Ak., CA., CTA., (Team Leader), Dr. Emma Yulianti, S.E., M.M., Heri Supriyanto, S.Kom., M.IKom., and Chitra Laksmi Rithmaya, S.E., M.M.
