The rapidly growing digital era in recent years has opened up opportunities for the younger generation to earn extra income. One such opportunity is affiliate marketing, which allows individuals to generate additional earnings. Many digital creators, especially those with tens of thousands of followers, are actively sharing affiliate links.
Recognizing this trend, Universitas Hayam Wuruk (UHW) Perbanas aims to encourage the "Zilenial" generation to produce meaningful content. As explained by Dr. Dra. Lindiawati, M.M., Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Cooperation at UHW Perbanas, Generation Z is highly familiar with technology and digital media. Their creativity is limitless and only needs to be directed toward positive endeavors, which could lead to entrepreneurial independence in the future.
"Vocational school students attending this event at UHW Perbanas can seriously try and practice running affiliate marketing. Moreover, they are already used to and skilled at creating content on their own social media platforms," Lindiawati said during the training session on Wednesday (October 23).
She suggested that these young people collaborate with Indonesian MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises), which are in great need of promotion. While MSMEs already have products, they often face challenges in promoting them effectively and making them appealing to the public.
"The habit of entrepreneurship from a young age can help Generation Z start their businesses early. In the future, they won't be confused because they will have been trained in entrepreneurship since school," she added.
During the event, students received insights and training from practitioners already involved in affiliate marketing. They were guided in creating engaging content and copywriting using various artificial intelligence (AI) tools. At the end of the session, students participated in a post-test to gauge their understanding of the material.
One student with the highest score and fastest response received recognition. The student, Alan Ikhtiar Stanfordi from SMK Ketintang Surabaya, shared how much he benefited from the training. A Digital Business major, Alan already had an account on Shopee's marketplace but had yet to sell any products.
"This event was really exciting. Earlier, we were taught how to become affiliate marketers on TikTok and Shopee accounts. Hopefully, I can succeed in affiliate marketing in the future," he said optimistically. (pr)
