GUEST LECTURE
“IMPACT OF COVID-19 ON RUPIAH EXCHANGE RATE MOVEMENTS”

The condition of Covid-19 has had a very significant impact both in the monetary, social, economic and humanitarian fields. In the economic sector, one of them is the condition of the rupiah exchange rate which forces restrictions on people's mobility to avoid transmission, applies to almost all countries, worsening economic conditions at the global and domestic levels, panic on global financial markets in early 2020 prompted investors to withdraw portfolio investments and flights to quality to liquid assets denominated in US dollars, and the phenomenon of global asset rebalancing has caused the currencies of developing countries, including Indonesia, to weaken.

The condition of the rupiah exchange rate due to the Covid-19 pandemic issued several policies from Bank Indonesia, these policies include reducing the BI7DRR interest rate by 100bps to 4.00%, expanding instruments and transactions through providing more hedging instruments against Rupiah exchange rate risk, maintaining the availability of liquidity for bank credit financing and accelerating efforts to recover the national economy, and adopting accommodative macroprudential policies in line with the national policy mix.

This policy had a good impact, one of which was stabilization and intensive communication with investors and market participants. The impact of Covid-19 on the movement of the rupiah exchange rate is an important topic to be discussed in more depth, for this reason a webinar entitled "The Impact of Covid-19 on Rupiah Exchange Rate Movements" was held. With an extraordinary resource person namely Dr. Prayudhi Azwar, Ph.D (Assistant Director of Macroeconomy, Monetary and Market Academy - Bank Indonesia Institute) guided by Mrs. Dr. Anggraeni, S.E., M.Sc.

The implementation of the guest lecture was carried out well and is expected to increase knowledge and insight regarding the movement of currency values, especially during the post-covid-19 pandemic. (Alda)
